YouTuber Chrissy Chambers won unprecedented damages in a civil revenge porn case, after learning that no criminal charges would be brought against her former partner who published private images of her online.
Chrissy Chamber decided to bring a civil claim against the man who published private images of her. In the first civil case of its kind to be brought in England and Wales, Chambers sued her former partner for harassment, breach of confidence and misuse of private information. She won this case, but it is worrying that the prosecutor decided not to bring charges at all. It is highly necessary that judiciaries and law enforcement officials learn more about image-based sexual abuse. A perpetrator of image-based sexual abuse should be punished for the crime. Although it is great that Chamber won the civil case, it is unbelievable that she had to resort to that option.
